I am a bit late on this one, nonetheless, chalk up another musical milestone to make me feel old. Paul Simon’s Graceland turned 25 this year – this album carries almost as much nostalgia for me as Lego, He-man and G.I. Joe do cumulatively. I was 7 years old and deemed old enough to handle my father’s records by my lonesome. Now given the task as house DJ I took pride in making sure the living-room was a Mini-Pops free zone. I would rattle off hit record after hit record including Supertramp’s “Crime of the Century”, Steely Dan’s “The Royal Scam”, the Beatles “Hey Jude” (Old Brown Shoe FTW), and Billy Joel’s “Glass Houses” without so much as a flinch. As a kid and up to present day, it’s important for me to enjoy an album in it’s entirety, because I am lazy and getting up to skip through a piece of vinyl is tiresome. I want to be entertained in 40-50 minute chunks only to get up once for the one necessary flip in the middle. Graceland did this for me. So get out your Legos and I DARE YOU to have more fun building a lego castle without the instructions vs following this link to hear Paul Simon’s Graceland in it’s entirety. Also, tomorrow October 13th is Paul Simon‘s 70th birthday.
I hope I am getting good SEO for OWS, you know what that means right? It’s Occupy Wall Street. It’s kind of a big deal. Well OWS, you know your message is wide-spread when Kanye West shows up for a photo-op wearing $1000s worth of clothes, a gold grill whilst on his way to go shopping with Beyonce and Jay-Z. When we all collectively call Steven Tyler‘s bluff and eat the rich, I hope that Kayne is on the menu but no one orders him. Like he’s in the salad section or something. That would probably drive him NUTS! And no I don’t have scurvy.
